Swedish MassageMassage can be recorded back as far as 3000BC to China where they discovered that applying pressure on certain points of the body could have beneficial effects. The Greeks & Romans used massage as their main method of treatment – Gladiators would be given a vigorous massage with oils to help prepare their muscles before a battle. Even the famous Julius Caesar had a daily massage to help with his Epilepsy.
It was Per Henrik Ling, a Swedish Physiologist, who in the early 1800s developed Swedish Massage as we know it today. He took the knowledge from all around the world – Greeks, Chinese, Egyptians – to create the massage movements that are now used worldwide. |
Hot Stone TherapyHot stone therapy has been used for thousands of years by many different cultures but the earliest use for health and relaxation reasons was in India. It began with the Hindus 5,000 years ago and was known as Ayurveda. This involved the placement of stones on the body to relax tense muscles and relieve pain.
The Native American women used warmed stones on their stomachs to ease menstrual pain, much like we may use a hot water bottle today. They were used in ceremonies in sweat lodges & also worn for health & protection. At night the workers would place stones on a fire and then under their bedding to keep them warm throughout the night. |
Wavestone Therapy
This tool was created to help the therapist by reducing stress on the hands, arms, wrist, back and fingers and so that we can work for longer, but it has many benefits to the client. Handmade from Jade, the Wavestone can retain heat for far longer than traditional ‘hot stones’ that are made from Basalt. It is shaped totally uniquely so not only is it easy for the therapist to grip, but it can also be used in a number of different ways on the body. It helps the ‘hard to reach’ problem areas become easier to get to and stimulates the circulatory system, as well as many other benefits. This is not a type of massage that can be booked in but it is a tool that I have trained in and will use during a treatment if I think it will benefit the client.
Menopause Massage
Every woman will go through the menopause at some point and every woman experiences a totally different menopause - there are so many symptoms and you might only have one of them or you may have them all - there is no 'one size fits all' treatment whether that be HRT, alternative therapy or a mixture of both. What is right for your best friend probably isn't going to be right for you.
Menopause massage is for any woman who thinks or knows that she is experiencing any of the symptoms of peri or post menopause. Maybe you aren't sure if you are going through the menopause but feel that something in you is changing then this is a treatment for you too. You could just be experiencing some anxiety, some frustration or heart palpitations; possibly a loss in confidence and haven't really thought that it could be the Peri menopause. It is still worth booking an appointment - the consultation will give us a chance to discuss what is going on and tailor a treatment especially for you and your needs. And if it isn't then menopause then that's fine - you will still have an amazing massage anyway!
The treatment itself is very different from any others that I offer as I use Robozo Scarf techniques - gentle movements to help relaxation and the flow of Oestrogen. It is mixed with Swedish techniques to help calm and relax the client and help them to feel the nurturing that they need and deserve.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
This treatment is based on Vodder techniques and is a very light form of massage.
The lymphatic system is responsible for filtering out cellular waste, toxins, and pathogens from the body; the lymph travels around via a network of vessels and nodes but when something blocks this process, lymph collects in your arms, legs, ankles or other parts of your body and can often make them swell.
MLD uses a range of specialised and gentle rhythmic techniques to move the skin in the direction of the lymph flow. This stimulates the lymphatic vessels that carry substances vital to the defence of the body as well as help in the removal of waste products.
As Lymphatic Drainage clears blockages, eliminates metabolic wastes and toxins from the body, helps in the transport of nutrients to cells and increases metabolic efficiency this all can assist in weight reduction. It also has a very calming effect on the nervous system and helps relieve stress and tension. It enhances blood flow which promotes collagen production—a key contributor to healthy skin appearance
Lymphatic massage can benefit just about everyone.
